HERA GARDEN

Hera Community School partnered with a local CSA for 2 years and gained the knowledge and skill needed to plan, plant and maintain an enormous garden.
 
Hera Garden was planted in  the spring of 2011.
The garden is being maintained over the summer by a group of students.
The garden will continue to grow throughout the 2011/2012 school year.
A greenhouse and a garden share program are in the works to help Hera Garden grow.
 
 It is the mission of Hera Garden to teach job skills and help provide jobs for students,
 supplement community & students families with fresh produce,
 promote healthy eating and good nutrition, and use the garden as a vehicle to teach language arts, math, social studies science & art.
 
Hera Garden is from heirloom organic seeds-
 
 Artichokes,Basil, Beets, Blueberries, Borage, Boysenberry, Broccoli, Cabbage,Celery, Carrots, Calendula, Cucumber,Cantelope, Evening Primrose, Fingerling Potatoes, Kale, Nasturtiums, Lemon Balm, Lettuce, Leeks, German Camomile, Hot Peppers, Bell Peppers, Onions, Thyme, Parslane, California Poppies, Lavender, Rosemary, Pumpkins,Squash, French Beans, Snap Peas, Turnips, Raspberry, Radish, Strawberries, Sunflowers
 
Hera Garden was tilled May 15th with planting started by May 19th. Final plants transplanted by June 14th.
 

The garden was tilled and divided into a grid system based on a Poteger Garden model

We created a garden center out of rebar and a concrete mixed with a moldable material called "Darjit"



Thorns, skulls and cement mix was added to create center
 content of your own.


Finished piece was painted
50 hand made rose and 40 leaves were made out of clay and fired at a cone 6 glaze

Bird bath in the shape of a flower sit under. Bird bath made out of Darjit cement mix and expanded metal lath.
