OUR MISSION
Hera Community School's goal is to provide community art & developmental hands-on projects and create learning opportunity for students in Clackamas County. Hands on learning applied to real life situations boost students self-esteem and helps connect them to their community. By connecting local & global students on shared project and dialogue, barriers are broken down, setting the stage for collaborations and friendships. Students have a better understanding of themselves, their community, the world and the importance of becoming a positive contributor to society. |
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Know-Understand-Do
Acquisition of knowledge, extended thinking, authentic, meaningful use, and mastery.
Project- based units connects students discussion, reading, research, and skills acquistion.
Differentiated Unit plans accomodate varied interests, learning styles and abilities of all students.
Assessment of skills mastery in the form of short answer tests and quizzes, student work logs, journals and other informal writing, formal state writing assessments, stations, activities and completed projects.
ACADEMICS-We teach state benchmark curriculum combined with art lessons, English, social studies, history, intergrated science, service projects and life skills.
SERVICE - We organize and participate in service-learning trips locally and abroad.
COMMUNITY- We collaborate with community members and professionals on various projects for students.
ART- We display students artwork, projects and installations at local galleries, shows, fairs, public spaces and retail stores. Mosaics, ceramics, drawing, painting, comics, film, editing, animation and written publications.
LIFE SKILLS- We teach school- to-work transition and life skills, focusing on marketable work skills, cooking, nutrition, personal budgets, productive leisure time activities, and social skills.
GROUP PROJECTS- Teamwork and group collaboration are an important component to our program.
INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION- Hera modifies lesson plans to accommodate indivual student needs. |
